Tony began painting wildlife at the age of 25. He first visited Africa when he was 29 and has been going back ever since. In the early years he took his easel, paints and everything to paint in the bush! Tony still has those oil sketches today.
During his career he has worked with galleries across the UK and also Montana and
Florida in the USA. In the mid 1990s he was commissioned twice to paint major canvases for the Army Air Corps for a collection at Middle Wallop in Hampshire. He was flown by the Army to Germany and also to Bosnia to record the conflict there, painting military helicopters at the air base.
More recently he has also been asked to paint on board Cunard cruise ships whilst sailing round South Africa to inform and entertain the passengers, including gallery exhibitions.
Tony has always worked from nature in Africa or India.
Taking many photographs or
sometimes field sketches on his numerous safaris, he feels that there is no substitute for witnessing his subjects first hand in their natural habitat. Painting in oils, his canvases have been sold worldwide and hung in many prestigious galleries including Harrods, and
the Mall Galleries in London.
Tony continues to visit Africa, his latest safari being to the mighty Maasai Mara in
2023, where he proposed to Margaret, his partner of 14 years. Tony and Margaret
live in Cornwall in the UK.
